Dr. Zaki Badawi is currently entering Number 10 Downing street for talks with Prime Minister Tony Blair etc.
The United States Government seems to have now apologised:

US Embassy apologises to Muslim leader for refusing entry
VICTORIA WARD
A BRITISH Muslim leader who was denied entry to the United States has been given an unreserved apology and assurances of a visa by the US Embassy in London.
Dr Zaki Badawi, the head of the Muslim College and the Council of Mosques and Imams, said he had been invited to return to the US straightaway.
But officials could not explain why he was turned away from the country last week.
"No-one seemed to understand," he said yesterday.
"But I fully accepted the apology. This was an error on behalf of junior customs officials, nothing else."
Dr Badawi had been invited to give a talk at the Chautauqua Institution in New York about the law and Islam.
He intends to return to the institute in October and has told the president, Thomas Becker, that he is eager to continue his work in the US.
"I have been invited again and will definitely go as soon as my schedule allows," he added.
"The US embassy encouraged me to return, they promised me a visa and guaranteed there would be no problems."
Dr Badawi, who was given an honorary knighthood by the Queen, was detained at JFK airport in New York for six hours last Wednesday with no explanation.
He was eventually told he was deemed "inadmissible" and returned home.
He has acknowledged that the decision was a likely a knee-jerk reaction to the London bombings and that customs officials were being overly cautious.
Dr Badawi said he did not blame them and was aware that it was a junior mistake and not a reflection of US policy.
But he warned that moderate Muslim leaders needed to be embraced and heard.
"If they continue to be excluded, they will be beaten and defeated by the extremists," he said.
Dr Badawi met the newly appointed US ambassador to the UK, Robert Holmes Tuttle, at his London office yesterday afternoon.
He was Mr Tuttle's first official visitor.
An embassy spokeswoman said: "Ambassador Tuttle made clear he regretted the series of events which disrupted Dr Badawi's travel to the US last week."
The embassy has not been able to ascertain why Dr Badawi was refused entry, she added.
Dr. Badawi is not an Islamic Scholar and should not be taken seriously, especially when he makes statements like; "take off the hijab". He is an example of the sign of the times...the true scholars will leave us and the ignorant will speak out and be listened to and believed. May Allah (azza wa jall) guide us and protect us.
@ ayyub - is that sufficient reason for him to be refused entry to the United States ?
As a muslim woman i know hijab is an integral part of my muslim identity but on the other hand i also know that islam is not a rigid religion but of tolerance. i agree that in these times muslim women if they so choose can remove their hijabs. hijab was ordained to protect women and if it becomes a means of attracting violence it defeats the purpose.
Sharmeen, your right women of all religions, faiths and beliefs, should be able to choose how they live, dress and behave without fear or prejudice.
I am agnostic, but respect and defend the rights of those who are lucky enough to have beliefs.
I disagree with Dr Zaki Barwadi on the terms of taking the Hijab off in such circumstances.
Did Jesus give up hope when he was being tortured on the cross?
Did Muhammad give up hope when the people of the Quraish beat his friends and threw stones at him?
Did any of the Prophets give up hope and give in to the majority of 'racists' or 'beaters' or whatever u wanna call them, when they were being hurt, tortured, called names, had their friends killed?
NO!
The Hijab is worn for the sake of Allah and protects them from being a sexual icon in the eyes of men. If people do racially discriminate against Hijabi Muslims and cause them harm, then it is a test from Allah. Taking the Hijab off would make the racists 'win' with their actions.
Even the Bible states that many men went through torture and pain and verbal and physical attacks all for the sake of God.
Muslim women SHOULD BE ALLOWED to live in this country without being hurt by racists (a minority). That job is upto the police to get rid of such harmful people. There is absolutely no need for Muslim women to compromise their beliefs!
