The new Identity Cards Bill is available on the Parliament website.
Our first impression is that it is almost the same as the previous version, still with some of the same stupid clauses as before:
e.g. 31 Tampering with the Register etc will still, despite the verbal assurances given in the House of Lords, criminalise many Civil Servant Trades Unionists and IT contract staff who either through legal industrial action, or through technical failures
"where it makes it more difficult or impossible for such information to be retrieved in a legible form from a computer on which it is stored by the Secretary of State, or contributes to making that more difficult or impossible."threatening them with up to 10 years in jail !
This is a stupid clause that even supporters of the scheme should denounce.
Why have the Home Office and NuLabour not bothered to listen ?
Where are the promised detailed costs of the scheme ?
