The Independent continues its revelations about potential problems with Tony Blair's alleged nomination of NuLabour Party financial donors for knighthoods and peerages in the forthcoming New Year's Honours list.

Sleaze watchdog stalls Blair's 'crony' peer list
By Colin Brown, Deputy Political Editor
Published: 28 December 2005

Tony Blair has become embroiled in a new "cash for favours" row over his nomination of prominent Labour Party donors for peerages.

The parliamentary sleaze watchdog has blocked the Prime Minister's working list of 28 peers, which includes businessmen who have donated thousands of pounds to his party.

He submitted the list of 11 Labour peers, eight Tory peers, five Liberal Democrat peers and four Northern Ireland peers in November. It was first revealed in The Independent on Sunday.

Now the House of Lords Appointments Commission has put a hold on the peerages, pending further checks. "The appointments commission is holding it up because they are dissatisfied with some of the names on the Prime Minister's list. Some members of the commission are holding out as a matter of principle," one source close to the cross-party commission of peers said.

We doubt if Boris Johnson, or any other media publisher in the UK or any blogger will actually publish the alleged "Bush / Blair / Al Jazeera Memo". Before anybody starts emailing all and sundry with copies of any alleged Memo, please check that it is not a hoax infected with a computer virus etc.!

Some questions for the media and for bloggers who are claiming that they would be willing to publish thiis secret document, if it magically fell into their hands, despite the risk of prosecution under the Official Secrets Act 1989 etc.:

  1. How easy are you making it for some anonymous insider whistleblower source to actually send you any such leaked Memos ?

  2. Do you publish your Email Address ?

  3. Do you publish , for example, a PGP Public Encryption key like ours ?

  4. Do you publish a Telephone or Mobile Phone Number ?

  5. Do you publish a Fax number ?

  6. Do you publish your Postal Address ?

  7. How will you be able to tell if the person on the other end of a phone, email, fax etc., willing to meet you in a Pub, to discuss publication of the Memo, is genuine, and is not a fraudster or an agent provocateur ?

  8. How exactly are you planning to authenticate any such memo which "just happens" to be sent to you ?

  9. How will you protect your whistleblower source from discovery and prosecution ?

  10. Why would any insider whistleblower who did have access to such information actually give you an exclusive story, rather than calling an open press conference, if they plan to take a principlied stand in public ?

  11. Will you remember to inspect the alleged memo for meta data if it is in, say, Microsoft Word .doc format e.g. Author name etc. ?

  12. Will you check such a Word document in case an old version of Word has been used, which betrays a GUID with an embedded MAC or IP address in it ?

  13. WIll you remember to copy any poorly censored portions from an Adobe .pdf into a text editor to reveal the underlying hidden text ?

BlairWatch has a useful summary of the story and a list of people who have signed up to the plan. There is even a Campaign Button:

We will not be publishing any fake memos or even any "genuine" ones released as part of some NuLabour spin and disinformation campaign.attempt to "manage" this news story.

The Independent on Sunday claims to have another leaked document, detailing some possible "cash for Peerages" candidates.

However, some of them appear to be only relatively small financial donors, and the biggest, e.g. Lakshmi "£;2 million donation" Mittal have not yet been "honoured".

Forking out a relatively small amount of cash, in return for lots of Government subsidies, by participating in the controversial City Academies scheme, seems to be the path to enoblement. The undeserved enoblement of NuLabour political commissar Lord Adonis, i the architect of this scheme .is an ongoing scandal.

The Sunday Times reports the astonishing news from a "Downing Street source" that the disgreced ex-Home Secretary David Blunkett is to take over control of the Home Office, whilst his replacement Charles Clarke goes on holiday.

'A senior Downing Street source said: "There has been a lot of fuss over Charles going on holiday, but we think he deserves one and David Blunkett will fill in over that brief period while he is out of the country. He obviously has a lot of experience in the area."

Tony Blair, who is to go on holiday this week, has also given Hazel Blears, the Home Office minister, a role in the day-to-day running of the department. John Prescott, the deputy prime minister, will be in overall charge of government while Blair is abroad.

The source added: “Prescott is in charge, but Blunkett will have control over issues relating to the Home Office.”'

So why is Hazel Blears MP, Minister of State for Policing, Security and Community Safety, who is meant to be responsible for "Counter terrorism" not up to the job ?

David Blunkett did not resign from the Home Office for reeasons of health or family , it was the result of getting caught out in a meddling with an immigration visa as part of his scandalous private life.

David Blunkett should not have been brought back into the Cabinet as Minsister for the Department for Work and Pensions, let alone anywhere near the Home Office where, presumably he will be rubber stamping Control Orders, Extradition Warrants, Electronic Intercept Warrants, and Immigration Visas and Appeals etc.

Who exactly is in charge of the massive Department for Work and Pensions, whilst Blunkett is crushing civil liberties and meddling with the Home Office and Police and the Security Service ?

Why was David Blunklett chosen rather than Jack Straw, also a former Home Secretary, who is presumably more currently more up to up to date with anti-terrorism investigations than Blunkett, since MI6 the foreign espionage Secret Service reports to him.

What are NuLabour playing at ? They have not protected our civil liberties and they have not prevented terrorist attacks in London.

Any sucesses by the Metropolitan Police and the Security Service etc. seem to be in spite of the NuLabour politicians, and not as a result of their incompetent leadership.

40 Bills in the Queen's Speech !

| 1 TrackBack

The media leaks ahead of the Queen's Speech seem to have started, as one has come to expect of NuLabour's contempt for Parliament.

According to the London Evening Standard:

"Blair steams ahead with 40 new Bills
By Joe Murphy, Evening Standard
12 May 2005

A mammoth Queen's Speech containing 40 controversial Bills was agreed by the Cabinet today as Tony Blair set out to prove his leadership has not run out of steam.
The 18-month programme of new legislation is being seen by ministers as a "virility test" of Labour's reduced Commons majority of 67.

Downing Street strategists believe the plans, topped by ID cards and a new clampdown on costly red tape, will herald a series of set-piece confrontations with Left-wingers hostile to Mr Blair's leadership."

Rubbish ! The NuLabour Government's ID card and centralised biometric database plans are the epitome of expemsive, bureaucratic, big government red-tape !

The aim is to demonstrate that the Prime Minister's authority is intact by defeating those who are agitating for an early transfer of power to Gordon Brown.

40 Bills ! This implies the usual NuLabour tactic of rushing through legislation, which even their own supporters have to concedem is usually full of badly draughted clauses, which do not get debated or amended properley by Parliament. Presumably they will continue with their usual contempt for Parliament by withholding letters, reports and documents, relevant to the heavily curtailed debates, from Members of Parliament, until the very last minute, perhaps even only releasing them during the debates themselves, as was done with the Mental Capacity, the Identity Cards and the Prevention of Terrorism Bills.

The full list, which was being set out at the first Cabinet meeting since the general election, will be unveiled in the Queen's Speech on Tuesday. It is set to include:

About this blog

This weblog comments on NuLabour's anti-democratic and authoritarian policies and political manipulation. We will try to deconstruct some of the NuLabour propaganda, disinformation, media spin and leaks.

Nothing has changed with the unelected Gordon Brown, who took over as Labour Party leader from Tony Blair, and became Prime Minister, without being elected, not even by the Labour Party, let alone with a political mandate from a General Election.

Now that there is a Conservative / Liberal Democrat coalition government, this blog will continue to watch out for any NuLabour creepiness and control freakery, attempting to ooze back into political power and influence, under the unpopular Ed Miliband, who personally shares the blame for all of NuLabour / Labour's policies. .
