20 NuLabour apparatchik Ministers from the unelected, undemocratically accountable House of Lords

Gordon Brown has now appointed an astonishing number of Apparatchiki from the unelected, unaccountable House of Lords, to serve as Cabinet Ministers, Ministers of State and Parliamentary Under Secretaries.

In theory, Ministers are kept in check from misbehaving, somewhat, by the fact that they have to justify their conduct in office to their Constituency electorate as a Member of Parliament.

This is what has led to Ministerial resignations as a result of fiddled expenses, or the appearance of impropriety, even for some expense claims which were technically within the rules e.g. Jacqui Smith, Hazel Blears, Tony McNulty etc.

This democratic safeguard does not apply to unelected Members of the House of Lords, who have been parachuted into Ministerial office and have had their ennoblement rapidly rubber stamped, simply through the patronage of the Prime Minister (Tony Blair or Gordon Brown).

Gordon Brown's shambolic regime now includes 20 such Apparatchik Peers (when Glenys Kinnock is ennobled) . In some Departments, they outnumber the elected MPs serving as Ministers.

Countries with residential forms of Government, e.g. the United States of America obviously appoint their Cabinet Ministers or equivalents, but these usually require some sort of cross party political consensus, after confirmation hearings in public, in front of a parliamentary committee.

None of that applies to this bunch of apparatchiki, who have been appointed on the whim of the weak and desperate Labour Prime Minister Gordon Brown, further showing up his promises to enhance the democratic scrutiny of the Executive by the elected House of Commons, as simply lies.

Blair/Brown have reached new depths. UK politics are just rotten and any decent apples left (abouts 100 MPs or so!) I'm sure are struggling to keep healthy! Only way I fear is for people by their thousands, not to vote for any of them! Cameron/Legg in Govt will make no difference at all. The 'quiet revolution' needs to up its game and let ALL the rogues in both Houses and beyond know we - the British public - have had enough! How else can we clear the debris?

I am so satisfied to have found a blog that supports my view that the appointment of unelected lords to ministerial positions of power in government is a constitutional scandal that needs to be rectified by the next governemnt.

Why are Lords Nandelson / Adonis et al allowed to be apointed to ministerial positions of power when they are not accountable to an electorate and have NO democratic mandate at all from UK citizens. They should not be alllowed to campaign either in a general election - of whatever party persuasion.

Why has the media steadfastly ignored this consitutional scandal?

About this blog

This weblog comments on NuLabour's anti-democratic and authoritarian policies and political manipulation. We will try to deconstruct some of the NuLabour propaganda, disinformation, media spin and leaks.

Nothing has changed with the unelected Gordon Brown, who took over as Labour Party leader from Tony Blair, and became Prime Minister, without being elected, not even by the Labour Party, let alone with a political mandate from a General Election.

Now that there is a Conservative / Liberal Democrat coalition government, this blog will continue to watch out for any NuLabour creepiness and control freakery, attempting to ooze back into political power and influence, under the unpopular Ed Miliband, who personally shares the blame for all of NuLabour / Labour's policies. .
