Friday 2nd February 2007 London 2600 meeting report
Here is a flavour of some of the sort of things we chatted about this month.. This is not a substitute for coming along to the meetings in person:
- Aqua Teen Hunger Force LED panic in Boston. Comparisons with London 2600 and Hacker Voice Radio's own "street art" phun with magnets, LEDs and batteries
- MI5 email subscription list shambles
- Prepay London Transport Oyster card swapping at London 2600 meetings, to muddy the data mining pool.
- William Gibson cyberpunk author - Neuromancer and Neal Stephenson's Snow Crash. Watch out for William Gibson's forthcoming book Spook Country
- CCTV cameras and ANPR @ Tescos
- Transport for London Coundown Bus tracking system. Older raio beacons on lampposts, WiFi ad-hoc mode MAC address and bus terminus transmitted by each bus on a Coundown route. Do "bendy buses" also transmit this ?
- Sabyon Linux 3D Desktop versus Windows Vista ?
- Windows Vista voice recognition "vulnerability" - same problems as with Apple PlainTalk on Macintosh AV Quadras circa 1993 ?
- Tor exit node censorship by Halsoscan and sometimes by blogger.com.
- Potential legal problems with WikiLeaks "anonymous mass leaking of confidential documents" project . Some discussion of legal, ethical and technical issues at the as yet unaffiliated WikiLeak blog
- CCTV wireless video cameras. All you need is an extended range WiFi antenna, a small portable TV monitor and one of these 12 channel 2.4Ghz receivers:
- The evils of Digital Rights Management . What to do with an Apple Ipod ? Play games on it of course:
- EXIF meta data and thumbnails "hidden" within digital images Examine or modify with ExifTool
