London 2600 meeting on Friday 5th January 2007 report
Here is a flavour of a few of the things we discussed or overheard. This is not a substitute for the real face to face meetings:
- Continuity '06 and DNScon 9 in Manchester - quite a lot of how many London 2600 people were "up for it" in Manchester.
- Gary McKinnon Appeal Court hearing set for Tuesday 13th and Wednesday 14th February 2007
- Greetings (via SMS text message" from Athens 2600 - Vodafone Greece phone interception scandal.
- Transport for London Oyster SmartCard and Biometric Passports, RFID , vulnerabilities and countermeasures.
- Making a cable for a laptop computer, in the Pub, using a soldering iron etc.
- Bob's Basement - PIC programming and other projects.
- Extraordinary number of used tissues found when "trashing" a BT building with ultra high telecomms bandwidth - what could the staff have been downloading ?
- Getting your seized computer equipment back from the Police after not being charged with any offence -- which approach is best David Mery or Richard Tomlinson ?
- What to do when you are suspended from work as an IT technician, for allegedly threatening to "hack" the Personnel department - get your Trades Union involved.
- Who wants to speak at this year's Infosec 2007 Hackers' Panel ? Suggestions welcome.
- Terrorism Act 2000 section 58 Collection of Information - we seem to know too much to be safe.
- The increse in prices of Tube fares for Cash / Paper tickets is designed top force people to use the more easily tracked Oyster Cards. Is The Sun right in claiming that the £4 fare on the shortest possible journey on the Tube from Leicester Square to Covent Garden (about ? Or should that really be Charing Cross to Embankment ? If you measure from ticket barrier to ticket barrier, rather than platform to platform,
Leicester Square to Covent Garden is about 330 metre, but Charing Cross to Embankment is about 236 metres. - <!-- email us some rumours/reports to insert here -->
