London 2600 meeting on Friday 6th October 2006

Here is a flavour of a few of the things we discussed or overheard. This is not a substitute for the real face to face meetings:
  • Apologies to anyone who was looking for us at the Trocadero between 7pm and 7.30pm - we decided to move on earlier than usual. The basement is turning into some sort of souk with market stalls filling up what used to be the public walkway,
  • BrumCon 06 - Saturday 7th October in Birmingham
  • CCTV camera surveillance, including the New Statesman article with details of the Trocadero CCTV control centre.
  • PIC microcontroller hardware electronics and software project - a data logger to start with perhaps ?
  • Cybercandy webcam - hacker drinks - Jolt Cola and Mountain Dew Code Red
  • The inside of a contactless door entry smartcard looks like this:
    Inside a contactless smartcard
  • Interesting Javascript Port Scanner proof of concept by SPI Dynamics Implications for AJAX and possible exploits of home or office routers and WiFi access points from within the firewall.
  • Next week in the House of Lords - Police and Justice Bill - amendment to the controversial new dual use "hacker tools" addition to the Computer Misuse Act 1990 - is this sufficient to prevent innocent IT systems and network administrators and security researchers and programmers from being criminalised for doing their work professionally ?
  • Gary McKinnon is still awaiting the verdict of the High Court on his Extradition to the USA.
  • Old school London 2600 history - where are they now ?
  • Is Tor and an open WiFi internet access point sufficient to "hide your tracks" ?
  • Hacker Voice Radio print magazine - hints and tips on production and distribution.
  • GPS satellite navigation how it works and how to jam or spoof it.
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Zap is back, apparently 9-)
  • Tube Party - Friday 20th October. Last carriage on a Circle Line train on the London Underground - it takes about an hour for the complete journey back to the start location. Bring food, drink, computer networking equipment, walkie talkie radios, disguises etc.

Act "normal" at stations - have phun in between.

Start location - not yet public
Start time - not yet public
Direction of travel - not yet public - obviously either clockwise or anticlockwise

email: TubeParty@nym.hush.com with suggestions and for the details so far agreed.
