| | Comments (3)

Croydon played an important part in the history of Punk Rock, but the most famous music venues have shut down and are now only of interest to urban explorers and cultural archaeologists.

The Greyhound, later the Blue Oyster Orchid - defunct punk rock venue on Park Lane, opposite the Fairfield Halls and Croydon College.

@ paul - thanks for spotting the error.

Not quite the same as the "Blue Oyster bar" featured in the Police Academy films:

I started frequenting the Greyhound at the start of the seventies and there used to be some great bands on there albeit ones that were usually only on the fringes of being known. The biggest name I remember seeing there was Stan Webb's Chicken Shack. I can't remember if that was 1970 or 1971 (i.e. whether I was a legal drinker or not!). Had to go across the road to the Fairfield Halls to see Free!
