Mission

Maternl© is a new and unique web portal with programs dedicated to improving the care and outcomes of all mothers during their pregnancy. Maternal and newborn healthcare is a paradigm for safe, patient-focused care. Families must achieve optimally healthy maternal and newborn outcomes in an atmosphere of effective healthcare provider communications, a shared decision-making process between and among clinicians and nurses (teamwork) and evidenced / experientially based practices all occurring within a milieu of consistent and compassionate care which generates trust, the hallmark of the doctor-patient relationship. When unexpected outcomes do occur and /or technology fails to achieve its intended purpose, there must be avenues to foster understanding, administer compassion and promise hope. This is the human dimension of healthcare; this is the essence of Maternl©:

  • To enhance engagement and inspire trust in your personal prenatal health care
  • To improve the prenatal care of all families by providing a secure Personal Prenatal Health Record and platform to record, store and retrieve personal prenatal healthcare information
  • To share a singularly unique program of original poetry, available for users to download and keep as a memento of his / her loss and inspire hope
  • To provide unique programs for healthcare access and support-within a milieu of trust: the hallmark of the doctor-patient relationship
  • To emphasize the importance of blending science and medicine with the social determinants of healthcare, enveloped in a philosophy of humanism, compassion and caring- to provide a complete paradigm for prenatal care.[ MORE ]

I am an Obstetrician and have devoted my entire professional career to provide optimal prenatal and obstetrical care, a striving to bring safe delivery, comfort and healing to children, born and yet to born, and to mothers through their years of childbearing and beyond. It has been the cause in my life. I have been uplifted by the triumphs of birth and healing and depressed by the failures. Yet I have always tried to look beyond the failures in search of the triumphs. (see Full Bio and CV). As the founder and developer of Maternl© , I have been able to uniquely design this program based upon this experience. Maternl© provides important tools to monitor each of your pregnancies' progress, better understand your providers' care, and provide a place for resources, comfort and support if you should have a miscarriage or very complicated pregnancy that might end with a pregnancy loss, stillbirth or neonatal death.

Maternl© is a unique portal designed to be used by all pregnant women and their families to improve their prenatal health and beyond. Maternl© addresses access to maternal and child healthcare particularly focused on disparities to early entry into pre-natal healthcare services, in an effort to reduce associated prematurity, neonatal and infant mortality. Maternl© provides important tools to monitor each of your pregnancy's progress, better understand your providers' care, and provide a place for access, resources, comfort and support for all pregnancy and newborn related concerns, particularly if you should have a miscarriage or very complicated pregnancy that might end with a pregnancy loss, stillbirth or neonatal death. The programs and goals of Maternl© include:

  • To improve and promote the health of women and children
  • To direct vulnerable and alienated patients into the healthcare system.
  • To reduce perinatal/neonatal/infant mortality
  • To influence healthcare systems, world-wide, to further embrace the poor and vulnerable families in need of health care
  • To narrow the digital divide
  • To offer physician-led access to healthcare services with respect, dignity and advocacy for those who have no healthcare provider.

    Maternl© and shared decision making

Maternl© provides a tool to help record, store and retrieve pregnancy information and promote shared decision making. Families achieve optimally healthy maternal and newborn outcomes when their care and resources are provided in an atmosphere of open (transparent), effective healthcare-provider communications, a shared decision-making process between and among families, clinicians and nurses (teamwork), evidenced / experiential based practices -all occurring within a milieu of consistent and compassionate care. The patient-provider partnership centers on the doctrine of this shared decision making (SDM), a belief that patients have a fundamental right to understand their medical condition to the best of their abilities and to participate fully with their providers in their care. The essential elements of SDM include:
  • a process to improve the knowledge of the risks and benefits of maternity care options and to increase consumer and provider engagement
  • a process of information exchange and involvement of patients in decision making
  • a tool and catalyst that promotes appropriate and entitled high-quality health care by providing thorough, evidence-based information and understanding about the patient's condition
  • encouragement for a dialog and personal communication between the patient and the provider in a milieu of trust
  • Adherence to the "Doctrine of Informed Consent"
  • access to sufficient, evidence-based information to make a decision that reflects self-determination, autonomy and control
  • to recognize that every pregnant woman has the right to base her maternity care decisions on accurate, up-to-date, comprehensible information

    Conclusion
Maternl© enhances partnership-in-care between you and your provider by enabling you to actively engage your provider within a time-frame necessary to fully discuss the elements of each prenatal visit such as your history, visit examination and laboratory / ultrasound findings, and then permit you to personally enter the pertinent information into the personal health record at the time and place of your point of care. Thus you will be able to actively participate in your prenatal visit and share in the retrieval, reviewing, and recording of your information. This should promote a better understanding of the condition of your pregnancy health.

Maternl© is committed to advocating for the highest quality and safest possible pregnancy experience for its users. The foundation of this quality is continued and joint communication between the patient and the healthcare provider. This communication must have at hand the patient's medical history and previous examination findings in order to carryout the most thorough assessment. Maternl© believes that everyone should have access to  contemporary healthcare services and support.  Prenatal care, labor and delivery care, neonatal care and when needed, bereavement support and understanding is a paradigm for safe, compassionate, patient-focused health care. When unexpected outcomes do occur and / or technology fails to achieve its intended purpose, there must be avenues to foster understanding, administer compassion and promise and hope.  This is the human dimension of healthcare; this is the soul of Maternl© .
